Chaos descended upon a quiet residential street when a gang of machete-wielding, masked men fought with a rival in Goodmayes.

Police were called at around 11.20pm to “a disturbance” in Percy Road when a brawl broke out on Monday, August 6.

Residents told the Recorder that this is not the first time an incident like this has happened in the area and several parked cars were damaged.

One witness, who doesn’t want to be named for fear of reprisals, said the men in masks tried to box the other car in but he tried his best to escape.

“They were tailgating him along the road and the other car was trying to get away,” he said.

“The second car came prepared, they got out their car in masks and then got weapons out the boot,” he said.

“The other car was reversing trying to get out the way and he bumped into several cars,”

The witness said he can recall “three or four” other similar incidents taking place in recent times.

He said it is very scary for residents and they feel as if they are caught up in a gang war.

“There is a primary school nearby, we are just thankful that it didn’t happen in the day,” he added.

“We are all really worried about what is going to happen next.”

A Met Police spokesman said two vehicles are believed to have collided before the occupants of one vehicle got out and began attacking the other.

“Officers attended,” he said.

“One vehicle had been abandoned at the scene. The occupants made off prior to police arrival.

“Some other vehicles were reported to have been damaged as a result of the collision.

“Another of the vehicles was located in Margery Road E7.”
