Some came with their partners, while for others it was an opportunity to get out of their houses and socialise, according to Shirley Rudge, a member of the church council.

She said: “The lunch was a real success which enabled a number of single people to join with others and have lunch - something they rarely have the opportunity to do.”

More than £250 was raised for St Peter’s from the church’s annual summer lunch.
