Ilford Harrison Gibson development going ahead

The renovation of an iconic Ilford landmark into 30 storey skyscraper will go ahead, despite fears about Brexit.
Plans to redevelop the empty Harrison Gibson building, in High Road, into three towers comprising of more than 300 flats looked to be finalised at the start of the summer.
However after the June 23 vote to leave the European Union (EU) those proposals were put on hold.
On Friday project manager Opera announced it had now submitted a planning application to Redbridge Council, which had been validated.
The proposals include 323 homes, retail and restaurant space, as well as an area dedicated for local business start ups.
The developers also plan to redesign part of High Road and Havelock Street.
Guy Wickett, project manager, said: “Since AWW Architects worked up the initial concept and design, the Harrison Gibson project team have worked hard with various bodies to devise a final scheme that works best for Ilford.
“It includes homes to help meet a local housing need, restaurants to boost Ilford’s evening economy and offices designed to meet the needs of start-ups and entrepreneurs – not forgetting new landscaping for Ilford High Road and Havelock Street.”
“After a period of pre-application consultation and engagement, the project team are pleased to be submitting an application that has been informed by comments from the council, the GLA, CABE, local residents, councillors and businesses.
“We now look forward to receiving comments during the statutory consultation period of which we will consider before the council determines the planning application.”
If the application gets the green light it will form part of the Ilford Housing Zone.
The council were awarded GLA funding to help build more than 2,000 homes by the year 2021.
