Ilford firefighters raise thousands for ill children with coastline charity cycle

A group of Ilford firefighters have completed the third leg of their charity cycle around England.
Three officers from Ilford fire station embarked on their mission around the country’s coastline in 2010 and have reached the Scottish border with three annual rides.
In three days, they cycled around 200 miles from the seaside resort of Bridlington, in North Yorkshire, to Berwick-upon-Tweed, the northernmost town in England.
Crew manager Jim Jobson, 51, said the extreme weather forecast last week was “a worry”.
He added: “There was a bit of rain and some days were very windy but our biggest problem was the terrain.
“The scenery was beautiful but it was so hilly.”
Jim and fellow firefighters Ally Warnock, 41, and Casey Moroney, 35, took in sights including Scarborough, Whitby bay and Robin Hood’s Bay on the ride, which finished on Thursday.
Jim said at the current rate of one ride a year, it could take a decade to complete the tour of the coast.
The team have raised around £4,000 so far and hope to add to the amount later this year.
They have not yet decided where to donate it but hope to help ill children in the Ilford area.
Jim said: “I would like to thank Faces, Visage, O’Grady’s, The Exchange and the public of Ilford for their generosity.”
