A women’s charity has launched services at its new home.

Awaaz, an organisation which provides advice on issues such as mental health and domestic violence, celebrated moving into the Loxford Children’s Centre, in Ilford Lane, on Wednesday.

The charity had previously been based at the Loxford Polyclinic for five years.

Chairman Bushra Tahir said: “It was very good. We had a good turn-out and lots of ladies were really happy with the place.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”

The launch kicked off the charity’s programme of Wednesday “lunch and club” events.

Members were visited by representatives from the Redbridge Neighbourhood Watch Trust and Redbridge Council, who gave advice on how residents can take precautions to lower their risk of being burgled.

Awaaz is still looking ahead to the future, despite a “crisis” which has seen its funding drop between 60 and 70 per cent in two years.

The group is aiming to launch its services in the borough of Waltham Forest and will be running a Bollywood dance class from September.
