Firefighters were honoured for coming to the aid of a woman who had collapsed after being trapped in her house.

Ilford Blue Watch team, made up of Elizabeth Hollingsworth, Neil Friend, Charles Kaye and Robert Davies, were handed Borough Commander Awards after the incident in December last year.

Redbridge Borough Commander Steve Brown, said: “This was a very stressful and distressing situation that was handled both professionally and sympathetically.

“I am very proud to be able to recognise the outstanding work of our firefighters on this occasion.”

The crew, led by temporary crew manager, Mr Friend, found the woman, who was unconscious and not breathing after responding to a call out. Two of the firefighters immediately began giving her CPR while the others reassured the woman’s family until London Ambulance Services arrived.
