Between 2008 and 2013, about a third of planning applications within a kilometre of stations in the borough used Crossrail as a reason for development.

New trains will arrive in 2017 ahead of the full opening in 2019.

There are eight new developments around Ilford station alone but only one – Pioneer Point – has been completed.

The largest is the 350-flat complex, including a 23-storey tower, being built at the former Britannia Music site.

Cllr Robin Turbefield, the cabinet member for regeneration, hailed Crossrail as an “incredible opportunity” for Redbridge.

He added: “It’s an exciting chance to develop and create new space for residents and business.

“The impact of such a large project also means extra employment opportunities for people living in the borough, something that we are very excited about.”

Matthew White, surface director at Crossrail said faster transport connections would help make Ilford “an even more attractive place to live, work and visit”.
