Amid talk of turning the town centre into a “mini-Manhattan”, the hustle and bustle of 1950s New York is set to come to Ilford.

Musical Guys and Dolls begins its three-day run at the Kenneth More Theatre, in Oakfield Road, at 7.30pm on June 7.

The production is being put on by Barking Music and Drama which marks its 40th anniversary next year.

Chairman Tony Lucas said: “[The show’s] brilliant musical score is one of the finest ever written for musical theatre with many memorable tunes.

“The styles range from romantic song through streetwise jazz to rollicking gospel.”

He added: “So come and join in the race to keep up with ‘the oldest established, permanent floating crap game’ as it moves from place to place across the stage – you’d be barking mad to miss it!”
