A bit of Westerosi glamour came to Redbridge this week as one Game of Thrones star returned to the school where her acting career began.

Former Bancroft’s pupil and star of stage and screen Samantha Spiro joined more than 200 current pupils at the school in Woodford Green High Road for a number of special performances.

The actress, who plays Mellessa Tarley in the fantasy drama, joined a host of parents and teachers to enjoy a promenade performance of A Midsummer’s Night Dream, an exhibition from the school’s art pupils and a range of interactive art.

Ms Spiro, who described the evening as “terrific” was then interviewed about her career and her time at Bancroft’s.

Headteacher, Simon Marshall said: “It was extraordinary; it was completely magical from the moment we stepped into the Quad and were whisked away by Shakespeare’s fairies.

“Many students have described this as the best thing they have ever done at Bancroft’s – a great accolade indeed.”
