Year 8 pupils from Forest Academy, Hainault, charged visitors to play their games at this year’s summer fete and raised money for two charities - Haven House Children’s Hospice and Alamanda Therapy Pets.

Candy floss and cakes were served up by the school while those at the fete knocked each other off podiums with jousting poles at the gladiator duals.

The school managed to raise a total of £550 for charity, with £400 going to the hospice and £150 going to the pet therapy charity, who give children with terminal illnesses the chance to meet their animals.

Forest Academy art and PE teacher Mandelena Charalambous said: “Our kids made us really proud, they did a brilliant job in hosting their games and the way our children conducted themselves and hosted this event was great.”

Alamanda Therapy Pets was also at the fete and brought along their animals, including dogs and a pony.

Ms Charalambous added: “They [the children] were able to see their work put to the test and see that their work was actually raising money for charity.”
