A funeral arranger has been ordained as a deacon after deciding to pursue the vocation seven years ago.
Marion Williams, who works at Gilderson and Sons, in High Road, Seven Kings, was ordained by Rt Rev Stephen Cottrell at Chelmsford Cathedral.
She is now able to officiate funerals and baptisms and will continue training to become a priest.
Marion said: “Being a priest was not something I’d ever thought about until I had a calling to go forth with this vocation.
“There are many doors to go through to become a priest and somehow I kept falling through the right doors.”
Marion trained part time at St Mellitus College, where she received a foundation degree in contextual theology.
She is continuing to study for her Bachelor of Arts degree.
The deacon will continue her current job and also serve at St Agnes Church, in Romford, on weekends and evenings.
She said: “The Church of England encourage their ministers to continue their work in order for them to be in touch with the real world.
“It will be a challenge juggling the two jobs but I am sure I will love it.”
Marion is set to be ordained as a priest next year.
