The charity Eastside Community Heritage has secured a further £134,000 to help fund its training programme for young people.

The cash, granted by the Heritage Lottery Fund, will be put towards giving students the chance to record, document and preserve the people’s history of London.

It is part of an NVQ Level 3 in oral history collection.

Eastside Community Heritage is currently based in Ilford but created the East London archive at the University of East London (UEL) and will be opening the Peoples Museum and Gallery of Newham, in Stratford in July.

The charity was set up in 1993 as part of the Stratford City Challenge community history project.

It will be starting recruitment for a third cohort of four trainees in July and August 2012.
