A Christian festival attracted an estimated 4,000 people from various backgrounds on Saturday, pleasing organisers with the success of the community event.

Fun in the Park, at Barkingside Recreation Ground, Barkingside, has been running for six years, having been set up by organiser Tony Robbins.

His wife Marion said he had wanted to move away from the traditional church fair.

Mrs Robbins, of Barkingside, who is on the organising committee along with her husband, said: “Every year, God provides. Every year, we start off without the money but we get there in the end. Saturday went off really well – we were really pleased with it.”

Mrs Robbins has helped organise the festival together with a committee sourced from three churches – Holy Trinity in Barkingside, Clayhall Baptist in Harewood Drive, Clayhall, and Barkingside Methodist Church in Fremantle Road, Barkingside.

The event included stalls, live music, fair rides and a First World War commemoration display.

“Tony had a vision in taking the village fete and taking it out into the community,” added Mrs Robbins.

“He wanted to enlarge the event and get other churches involved.

“Fun in the Park shows the love for the community - it is open to everybody and it is free.”

Having a brand new kitchen is something that lots of people want but can only dream of. Sadly keeping up to date and making our living spaces as nice as they can be is a costly and incredibly stressful business. Even a fresh coat of paint makes all the difference but isn’t easy or quick.
