Fire crews from Ilford battled a blaze at a house in Colenso Road in Newbury Park today.

Two fire engines from Ilford station were called to the fire just after 11.45am this morning.

A spokesman for the fire station said the fire was accidental, with nobody in the house at the time.

He said crews took several hours to extinguish the flames.

“It had potential to be a lot worse,” he added.

Crews also attended a flat fire on Chadwell Heath High Road.

The fire service said one crew from Ilford and one from Hainault station were called to the flat at 3.20pm.

A spokesman said the fire was caused by some food being left on.
