Three people including a two-year-old child escaped a blaze at a house in St George’s Road, Ilford, on Saturday night.

Four fire engines attended the fire in a coverted loft on the residential street. The propety’s occupants escaped without injury, the London Fire Brigade said.

The Brigade, which was called at 8.20pm, said investigators believed the incident’s “probable cause” was an electrical fault.

Eyewitness Asokh Ratnam, a 45-year-old postman who lives opposite, said: “I saw the blue lights and I saw the Fire Brigade so I went out. They were here for about four to five hours.

“They said it came from the loft room, an electrical extension lead.

“A two-year-old kid, and mum and dad were there.”
