A whole stretch of Otley Drive (pictured) is currently being dug up while company, Cadent Gas (formerly National Grid Distribution), are carrying out essential gas mains replacements.

“Ageing gas mains are being replaced with tough new pipes which should last for many decades,” a Cadent Gas spokesman said.

“This work must be done in order to ensure local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.

“Residents are informed of planned gas mains replacement work before it takes place.”

Maintenance work is currently being carried out at the following locations.

Ilford:

- Clarendon Gardens: Expected to continue until November 6

Gants Hill:

- Otley Drive, Gants Hill: Expected to continue until November 28

-A12 Eastern Avenue: Fixing a gas escape which should be sorted by November 3

Redbridge:

- Grasmere Gardens: Expected to continue until November 21

- Keswick Gardens: Expected to finish by today

- Ambleside Gardens: Expected to finish November 21

- Redbridge Lane East: Expected to finish November 3

Cadent Gas said residents should always ask to see identification from any engineer or Cadent staff trying to gain access to their property to carry out gas works.

“All our staff carry official identity cards and will not be offended if people ask to see them,” he added.

“To verify an engineer’s identity or for more information on the work call 0800 096 5678, more information on Cadent’s gas mains replacement work can also be found at www.bettergaspipes.co.uk.”
