Pupils all of a twitter about Birdwatch

There was nothing feather-brained about the children at one school who played their part in a national wildlife survey to monitor the number of birds in the UK.

Year 4 students at Uphall Primary School, Uphall Road, Ilford had their clipboards and pencils at the ready as they took to the school gardens to spot some feathered friends.

The survey was part of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Big Schools’ Birdwatch which took place on Thursday.

Tricia Kheejoo, head of Year 4, said: “The children were really excited, they had pictures of all the birds and had to circle the number of birds that they saw”.

About 120 Year 4 children took part in the bird watch as they had been learning about wildlife.

Miss Kheejoo said: “We have a sensory garden and Year 4 has the responsibility for filling up the bird feeders. I think it tied in quite nicely. They loved it. It was a really nice experience for them.”
