Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe spent nearly an hour talking to children at Oaks Park High School, in Oaks Lane, as part of a wider visit to the borough.

“He just wanted to come to the school to get some views on the Met Police,” said Mohamed Omer, the vice-chairman at the school.

“The children wanted to know about how to join the police, what made him go into the police force and what were the biggest challenges about being a police officer.”

The school also voiced its appreciation of being allocated a police officer last year, according to Mr Omer.

He added: “It helps a lot to have an officer with the school. We asked him if there was any [scope] to extend these plans to other schools.”

Sir Bernard was taken on a tour of the school by pupils afterwards.
