Temidire Owolabi, 21, of Chafford Hundred, Essex, is accused of shooting James Bryant, 24, the former owner of the Cakes and Shakes milkshake parlour in High Road, last November.

It is claimed Romain Arthur, 23, of Hazel Way, Chingford, ordered his friend Owolabi to carry out the attack.

Arthur became enraged after hearing his son had been seen in Mr Bryant’s arms during a trip to Westfield in Stratford, the Old Bailey has heard.

Mr Bryant was shot twice at close range with a semi-automatic 9mm pistol at the High Road store on November 14 and spent the next two months in hospital.

Speaking at the trial, Sade Lasisi, the mother of Arthur’s son, said she immediately identified Owolabi when shown CCTV images the following day.

Richard Horwell, prosecuting, said: “Did you recognise the gunman?”

Miss Lasisi replied: “Yes I did.

“It was Temi [Owolabi].

“We went to the same school - he was in the year above me.

“He was Romain’s friend.’

Asked how she recognised him, she said: “He’s just got a distinctive face.”

When she visited Arthur a few weeks later, he gave her about £100 in cash and a piece of paper with a statement retracting her identification of Owolabi, it is claimed.

She denied claims she made up her evidence to get back at Arthur after learning he was seeing another woman.

She also denied identifying Owolabi because he was the man who introduced Arthur to the woman.

Owolabi denies attempted murder and two counts of possessing a firearm with intent.

Arthur denies two counts of perverting the course of justice and both men deny conspiracy to murder.

The trial continues.
