A pedestrian “left for dead” in a hit and run crash is appealing for help in tracing the driver responsible for inflicting his life-changing injuries.

Niraj Sudra, 34, sustained a torn aorta, fractured skull, spinal fractures, and multiple leg, pelvis and elbow breaks when a white BMW ploughed into him.

Following the collision – which happened in Green Lane, Ilford, on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at 1.10am – he has chosen Road Safety Awareness week to appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

Niraj said: “Prior to the accident I was a very active and social person and I would run, play golf, and was an active gym member.

“Now I’m a shadow of my former self, I don’t go out and socialise as much anymore, I am anxious all the time and in constant pain.

“The police have CCTV of the aftermath of the collision but not of me being hit. I can’t remember the collision but I have been told that they stopped briefly before speeding off, leaving me for dead - It appears that the driver just didn’t seem to care that they had seriously injured someone.”

Niraj was returning home from a night out with his family when he was struck while standing on a traffic island.

The car momentarily stopped before speeding off towards Cobham Road.

Niraj was taken to hospital and put in an induced coma and underwent surgery to have his pelvis, leg, and ankle pinned and plated.

He also had a stent fitted in his aortic tear and spent more than a month in hospital.

Upon his release, Niraj was bed bound and had carers supplied by Redbridge Council.

Natasha Fairs, injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, representing Niraj, said: ““We are supporting the police with their investigation and would appeal for anyone who may have information about the collision, or the moments before or after to come forward.

“It might only seem a small piece of information but that detail could provide vital information in helping Niraj see the driver brought to justice.

“Niraj faces a long road to recovery and we are working with him to help Niraj to obtain the treatment and therapies he needs.”

Anyone with information about the collision should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
