A long-awaited sports facility and playground for children is finally set to become a reality.

Work has begun on a play area in Benton Road, Seven Kings, after seven years of fundraising by the Vicarage Lane Play Park group.

The members have raised approximately £250,000 so far through campaigning and receiving support from organisations such as Redbridge Council, Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure and Sport England.

Bill Whiston, 65, chair of the park group, said: “It is great that it is starting now. It has taken us a long time to get here, but it is finally happening and it is really good.”

The money will be used towards phase one of the scheme - a car park and a floodlit multi-use games area, which will be used for sports such as football, netball and basketball.
