The Gilbert Colvin Primary School pupils had written messages on 350 “medals” in a campaign to get children from developing countries into education.

The trip was organised by Ilford North MP Lee Scott as part of the Send My Friend to School campaign.

Mr Scott said: “There are many people around the world far less fortunate than we are and although people sometimes question things when we are helping people elsewhere in the world, we have to recognise how lucky we are.”

The Conservative MP suggested the trip after attending a special assembly.

The children were joined by their head teacher, Debbie Wiles, and teaching assistant Karen Burton into the Prime Minister’s office.

Miss Burton said: “David Cameron wasn’t there, which was a bit of shame, but Lee Scott took us on a lovely tour of the Houses of Parliament.

She added: “The Millennium Development Goals said every child would be in education by 2015 and world leaders made that promise.

“But it hasn’t happened, so we’re highlighting that there needs to be some progress.”

The Fab Fundraisers from the school, in Strafford Avenue, also raise money for other causes.
