Redbridge-based charity One North East London has been awarded the sum by the City of London Corporation’s charity City Bridge Trust.

It will be used for the NE Teens project, which helps young people cope with the addiction of a parent or relative as well as supporting their own wellbeing.

The grant will be used to maintain the project and its bespoke counselling sessions, which help improve people’s self-esteem and develop positive relationships.

Jane Clack, a NE Teens counsellor, said: “We are delighted to receive this award, which will enable us to continue and extend our specialist, tailored work with young people affected by parental addiction over the next three years.

“We will be able to help more young people, improving their mental health and breaking the cycle of addiction within families.”

Billy Dove, chairman of City Bridge Trust, said: “Parental addiction can have an extremely negative impact on young people, effects that can sometimes last their entire lifetimes. The funding will make it possible for 60 young people to benefit from this practical treatment.”
