Beware of tax rebate phishing emails, warns HM Revenue and Customs

A warning has been issued about tax rebate phishing emails, after taxpayers reported receiving almost 80,000 fraudulent emails last year.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) issued the warning about emails promising a tax refund in exchange for personal credit card or banking details.
These details are often then sold on to criminal gangs.
HMRC stresses it never sends out emails about a genuine tax rebate.
If you believe you have received a phishing email send it to phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk .
