Beckton shoppers choose to support youth cancer charity

A supermarket in Beckton has announced a new partnership with a local charity to help young cancer sufferers.
The Youth Cancer Trust is the new chosen charity for Sainsbury’s in Claps Gate Lane for 2012/13, encouraging customers to donate in store to help young people aged 14 to 30 suffering with cancer or any malignant disease.
Shoppers were asked to vote for a charity between May 9 and June 20 as part of the Sainsbury’s Local Charity scheme, now in its fourth year.
Stuart Cavallaro, Sainsbury’s Beckton store manager, said: “We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans instore and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping support them.”
Last year, Sainsbury’s Beckton supported The MS Society and raised £4,000 for the charity with the help of customers.
Fred Saulsbury from Youth Cancer Trust said: “I hope this partnership will raise awareness to Newham residents about what we do and the impact we have in the community.”
