A keen amateur photographer snapped these beautiful pink flowers brightening up Wanstead Flats as winter starts to draw near.

Rose Stephens took the picture of the southern part of Epping Forest, in Wanstead, on a misty morning in the park.

The pink flowers contrast with the bleached grass and the green trees on the edge of the Flats.

She told the Recorder: “I took the photo because I love the red colour of the leaves, like a last dazzling display before it dies back down.

“I like the bands of colour contrast too of the bleached grass and pink.”

The leaves turn pink after flowers on the Flats, and used to appear on bombsites in the Second World War.

Rose, of Forest Gate, continued: “I love autumn time.

“I am quite often on the Flats and I can’t wait for another misty morning.

“My main aim is to let people see what is in our local area and hopefully lead to people looking after what we have around us.”
