A Barkingside restaurant fire, which six fire engines tackled this morning (November 9) hopes to reopen within a month.

Best Grill and Restaurant, High Street, has been serving residents for the last 17 years and has called builders and electricians to get to work fixing the property today.

A spokesman for the shop said they were first alerted to the fire when staff and neighbors living above the shop called the fire brigade and the owners.

“There was a cable problem with electricity - it could have happened to anyone,” he said.

“The front canopy and electric wiring caught fire.

“Thank god we live locally.”

The spokesman said they were visited by the fire brigade and investigations team and they “sorted everything out”

The electricity has been cut to the shop and they will sort out the inside of the shop before turning it on again.

“The shop has been here for nearly 20 years,” the spokesman added.

“We love serving the residents and the local community.

“We hope to open within the month, in the proper way after safety tests.”

More than 30 firefighters and six fire engines tackled the blaze in Barkingside after they were called to reports of a fire at 1.17am.

Part of the ground floor and part of the first floor was damaged by fire.

Two adults and one child left a first floor flat and three adults left a second floor flat before the arrival of the brigade.

A further five adults and four children self evacuated adjacent properties as a precaution.

Fire crews from Hainault, Ilford, Woodford, Leytonstone and Stratford fire stations attended the scene.

The incident was under control by 3.34am and the London Fire Brigade said they are investigating the cause of the fire.
