Patients at King George Hospital were given bottled water last week after bacteria was found in the water supply.

All water tanks at the hospital in Barley Lane, Goodmayes, were drained and inspected after “small traces” of contamination were found in routine samples taken from a sluice on Thursday.

The wife of a patient at the hospital, who did not want to be named, said: “We heard there was something wrong with the water and my husband was given bottles.

“They were putting filters that looked like white caps on the end of taps.”

A spokesman for Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust said the water system was re-chlorinated as a precaution.

She added: “Clinical services continued uninterrupted, patient care has been unaffected, and subsequent water sampling has confirmed that there is no further cause for concern.”
