Pupils at one of the borough’s Hindu schools held a day of music and dance to mark Diwali.

Known across the world as the festival of light, the festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

And at Avanti Court Primary School, in Carlton Drive, Barkingside, talented youngsters took to the stage to celebrate.

RE teacher Shusma Makwana, said: “We were really happy it went so well and that both the parents and the pupils seemed to really enjoy it.”

The day’s festivities saw a special fashion show of outfits designed and modelled by Year 1 pupils, a brave Year 5 girl perform a traditional Indian dance and the entirety of Year 3 tell the story of Lord Ram’s return to his homeland after defeating an evil demon.

“Because of inset days and school trips Year 3 didn’t have that much time to practice. All in all I’d say they had two and a half days to rehearse so we’re thrilled with them!”
