The Met office has issued an amber weather warning over London and South East England where torrential downpours, lightning and large hail are forecast.

The warning has been put in place from 12.15am to 11.45pm on Saturday.

Thunderstorms are predicted for the region along with spells of warm sunshine.

When thunderstorms hit torrential downpours are likely along with frequent lightning, large hail and strong winds.

The Met office has said that significant flooding is possible where thunderstorms occur.

The extreme weather is caused by a very warm, humid air mass that is making its way across the UK. It is expected to become increasingly unstable on Friday night and through Saturday.

The office has advised people check forecasts on Saturday.
