A knife-wielding man who threatened a Tube worker after they asked him to step back from the edge of the platform has been sentenced.

Daniel Philp, 21, threatened the member of staff at South Woodford station in a fit of rage in March this year.

The worker had asked him to take a step back from the edge of the platform as he was very close to the edge.

But when confronted, Philip, of Barfields, Loughton, Essex, became abusive and brandished the weapon before threatening him.

The member of staff left the platform and called for police assistance.

British Transport Officers attended the incident on Saturday March 18 and arrested Philp.

Upon searching him, he was found to have a knife and a bag of cannabis on him.

The 21-year-old pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a controlled drug of Class B – cannabis.

Last Monday, he was sentenced to six weeks in prison at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, suspended for 12 months.

He was also ordered to carry out 50 hours of unpaid work, pay £100 compensation, £115 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
