81 firefighters battle Green Lane, Dagenham shop blaze

Six people from flats in Green Lane, Dagenham have been evacuated after a fierce blaze in a shop which was fought by 81 firefighters in 12 fire engines this morning.

The whole of the single storey workshop at the rear of a shop was completely destroyed by the blaze. The fire spread to the shop causing a small amount of damage.

Station Manager Dan Alie, who was at the scene said: “Six people from nearby flats were evacuated as a precaution all thankfully uninjured. The crews will be at the scene throughout the morning damping down small pockets of fire.”

The Brigade was called at just before 2am and the fire was under control at 0553. Fire crews from Dagenham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Green Lane was closed for some time, but is now open and road chiefs are reporting traffic is flowing freely.
