Funding worth £50,000 has been awarded to 15 aspiring businesswomen following a bid from the University of East London to get more females into boardrooms.
Women in five east London boroughs aged 18 or over were invited to apply for funding, mentoring support and office space to set up their own business.
UEL’s Centre of Excellence for Women’s Entrepreneurship bid on their behalf to the RBS Group Inspiring Women in Enterprise who were looking to support aspiring entrepreneurs through their Make It Real project.
Each woman will receive £2,000, a designated mentor, three months office space at UEL’s Knowledge Dock Business Centre, six workshops, and a professional business plan with social media strategy.
RBS Group is making £500,000 of grants available every year for the next three years, which will go to organisations who support businesswomen.
The Make It Real project will open for applications in February and run until October 2013.
