A new Wi-Fi service on the Underground has been a success at two stations in Newham.

The service, which was launched four weeks ago by Virgin Media, has already been used to deliver one million tweets, Facebook posts, e-mails and web pages in a single week.

And commuters using West Ham and Stratford have been taking advantage and using the internet while using the the Tube.

The new system will bring huge benefits for commuters, as throughout the 2012 Games and beyond, passengers will be able to check TfL travel pages for live journey information and visit some of their favourite sites. Already the service is expected to extend to 120 stations by the end of the year.

To access the Wi-Fi service, London Underground passengers simply need to connect to the service and register their e-mail address. Hundreds of access points have been installed throughout 41 stations allowing passengers great coverage from the tickets halls to the platforms. The superfast network has already enabled the delivery of over one million online interactions in just seven days.

Virgin Media is offering free internet access throughout the summer. After the summer, the comprehensive Wi-Fi portal with TfL travel information, updates and London new and entertainment will remain free for all tube passengers.
