An Irish pub is not just celebrating St Patrick’s Day this weekend but is also campaigning to get you an extra day off.

O’Neill’s, in Station Road, Ilford, is expected to be packed out with revellers who will be asked to sign a petition to make March 17 a national bank holiday.

The Ilford-branch is one of 49 across the country that will try and get the 100,000 signatures required for the plea to be put to the Houses of Parliament.

Westlife’s Nicky Byrne, who backs the appeal, said: “St Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest days in the Irish calendar, so for the millions of Irish across the globe I urge you to support O’Neill’s’ bid to make it a national holiday.”

Gary Leigh, manager at O’Neill’s Ilford, said they will also be raising money for Ilford children’s charity Hopes and Dreams.

If you want to sign the petition go to oneills.co.uk/stpatricksday.
