The event, which was held at Greenwich’s London Marathon Playing Fields, was sponsored by London City Airport, through its community programme.

South London Special League (SLSL) is a non-profit organisation that offers opportunities for young people through sport to improve their lives, increase fitness, raise their self- esteem and heighten their aspirations.

Over 200 young people from various London schools competed in several leagues such as primary, girls, under 14’s and under 16’s with the runners up and winners receiving a trophy as well as an award for fair play, all awarded by Greenwich’s Mayor David Grant. The event was staged using a £1,500 donation from the airport as well as airport volunteers on the day.

Sharon Brokenshire, Founder of SLSL said: “It was a wonderful day with perfect weather. We saw about 200 young disabled, boys and girls play fabulous football and lots of fair play. It was inspirational and a great day to reflect the Olympic and Paralympic values.”

London City Airport has supported this event for three years as part of its community health and wellbeing programme aimed at promoting healthy living in the local area around the airport.
