Tfl's green initiative goes down the Tubes

21 July 2010

Y

OUR readers will recall that Transport for London (Tfl) started work to provide disabled access to Newbury Park Station in April last year, but ran out of money in November.

Rather than leave the partially completed excavations for new lifts, which must have a cost of few pennies of our money, Tfl filled them in with concrete and planted out a grass lawn with saplings and patio.

The 15 young trees have not been watered during this hot summer and are now dead. The potted plants on the patio and the grass look as if they will soon go the same way. And both the grass and the patio are roped off with access denied to passengers.

Is it not time that those responsible for this fiasco at Tfl were brought to account?
