HUSH fell over Fairlop Waters this morning as people gathered for the first ever Remembrance Day service to be held on the former war base.

Readings were given by a host of dignitaries at the country park in Forest Road, Barkingside, including by Ilford North MP Lee Scott and Alan Harris, president of the Fairlop Heritage Group, which organised the memorial service.

Wreaths were placed on a memorial wall and a tree was planted in honour of the service.

Fairlop Waters was a base for airmen in both World War One and World War Two.

See tomorrow's Ilford Recorder for a special feature on all the remembrance services held across the borough.
