Medics rush heart attack victim to under-threat A&E

ZJAN SHIRINIAN - 10 February 2010
AN ELDERLY man who had a heart attack at the wheel of his car outside King George Hospital was rushed to its under-threat A&E last night.

Four cars piled into each other after the man suffered a heart attack while driving along Barley Lane, Goodmayes, at 7.10pm.

Despite the possibility that King George's A&E could be axed by health chiefs, paramedics chose to take him there as a priority rather than to the London Chest Hospital, near Bethnal Green.

Medics said he is in a "serious condition".

A 37-year-old man in another car was taken as a priority to Queen's Hospital, Romford, with a head injury.

He had to be cut of his car by a crew from Ilford Fire Station and a rescue team from Hornchurch after becoming trapped.

Another three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
